This article discusses the importance of school-based all-hazards response plans for children during natural disasters, infectious diseases, and terrorism. Schools play a crucial role in public health preparedness, with prepared schools implementing crisis policies and plans. A Healthy People 2020 objective aims to increase the percentage of school districts with specific crisis preparedness topics. The report analyzes school district policies and practices using data from the 2012 SHPPS study. Districts in the Midwest were less likely to require specific topics in their plans compared to the Northeast and South. Urban districts were more likely to include specific topics, while Southern districts showed more engagement with partners. Collaboration with community partners is essential to achieve preparedness objectives for children.
