The article investigates the health impact and medical response to a mass casualty chemical incident involving a vinyl chloride release. Through interviews with key hospital staff, the study found a need for improved communication, more incident-specific information, and better utilization of available resources. The majority of patients were treated at the closest hospital, with a high percentage receiving care in the emergency department. Patients with preexisting medical conditions were more likely to be admitted. The study suggests that continuous emergency response planning can enhance communication and patient distribution, especially targeting individuals with multiple medical conditions and children for risk communication.
