The article discusses the impact of the 2010 earthquake and tsunamis on Dichato, Chile, where 80% of the town was destroyed, displacing 400 families for almost 4 years. Recupera Chile (RC) played a key role in the town's recovery process, focusing on children's mental health. The multidisciplinary RC coalition prioritized community-led recovery, economic rebuilding, and health promotion. Through partnerships with local entities and a three-pronged approach, they developed a school-based program called La Escuela Basada en Realidad. The article emphasizes the importance of long-term post-disaster mental health programs that involve the community in finding solutions.
