About
This article examines what factors make people more likely to be ready for emergencies. It uses data from a 2006 survey in five states. Although many people feel prepared, only 45% actually are by objective measures. Key factors for being prepared include feeling well-prepared, having a disability or special health needs, being aged 55-64, and earning over $50,000 annually. For minorities who couldn't afford medical care last year, preparedness was lower. The study highlights the gap between feeling prepared and actual readiness and shows that income and age are important predictors of emergency preparedness.
