About
This review examines infant, neonatal, and postneonatal death trends in Japan from 2002 to 2012, focusing on the Tohoku region affected by a natural disaster. It describes how overall infant deaths decreased in Japan but increased slightly in Tohoku after the 2011 earthquake and tsunami. Postneonatal deaths were higher than neonatal ones. The main factors affecting death age were gestational weeks and birth weight. The study highlights the need for better health policies to reduce postneonatal deaths, especially during disasters, by providing proper care for mothers and infants in vulnerable areas like Tohoku.
