This article explores the shared experiences of perinatal nurses who provided care in New Orleans during Hurricane Katrina. Through in-depth interviews, nurses reflected on themes such as duty to care, conflicts in duty, uncertainty, strength, grief, anger, and resilience. The study highlights the importance of basic nursing skills, problem-solving, and staff unity in times of crisis. It also emphasizes the need for ongoing support for healthcare workers to recover from traumatic experiences and cope with associated symptoms. The findings provide insights into the challenges nurses face during disasters and the significance of adaptation and resilience in patient care.
