About
This article examines the impact of mass casualty disaster drills on the timeliness of care for nondisaster patients in a pediatric Emergency Department (ED). The study analyzed nine disaster drills conducted since 2001 at a healthcare institution, comparing drill dates with control dates. Results showed no significant difference in time-to-triage, time-to-physician, and ED length of stay between drill and control days. Interestingly, admitted patients spent less time in the ED during drill dates. The findings suggest that disaster drills at this institution do not significantly affect the timeliness of care for nondisaster patients, highlighting the importance of maintaining quality care during such drills.
