About
This practice guideline can assist clinicians and policymakers on safeguarding children and minimizing harm from chemical or biological attacks. While federal programs support public health preparedness, state and local funding may be insufficient, making communities vulnerable. Pediatricians must be prepared to care for children during such events, even though some medical treatments for these agents are not well-studied for children. The American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) offers resources on disaster preparedness, including the pediatrician's role, medical countermeasures, mental health support, and family readiness. Both this revised policy statement and its technical report replace the 2006 policy statement titled “Chemical-Biological Terrorism and Its Impact on Children.”Tags
