This study evaluated challenges faced by families with children with access and functional needs (CAFN) in disaster preparedness. CAFN are vulnerable to emergencies, yet many families lack adequate preparedness. The research involved 20 parents/guardians of CAFN in a large metropolitan county. Findings show that most CAFN have behavioral and sensory impairments, with many families lacking communication plans and emergency kits. Barriers to preparedness include disability coping, communication issues, and knowledge acquisition difficulties. Overall, disaster preparedness for families with CAFN is insufficient, requiring more detailed planning by parents, schools, healthcare providers, and communities.
