About
This study examined the development of crisis standards of care (CSC) in United States. A search was conducted in 2015 and 2020 to identify states with CSC plans. Results showed that 36 states were actively developing or had developed official CSC guidance. Most plans addressed ventilator use, influenza planning, and pediatric care, but fewer covered burn patient care. Some states lacked publicly available guidance on maintaining care standards during disasters. This highlights the importance of having clear guidelines for using resources like ventilators and making tough decisions during crises to ensure everyone gets fair treatment even when supplies are low.
