About
This article describes a system called "Med-X" that helps medical examiners find deaths caused by infections and bioterrorism. It was tested in New Mexico from 2000 to 2002. Out of 6104 cases, 250 met the criteria for Med-X, with over half being due to infections. The system helped identify specific germs causing these deaths and increased autopsies by only 1%. Using symptoms like flu-like signs can predict fatal infections well. Med-X improves how medical examiners report infectious disease deaths, helping public health officials recognize threats like bioterrorism more effectively.
