This article highlights the critical need for pediatric considerations in emergency preparedness plans, which are often overlooked. It introduces a new pediatric-specific Hazard Vulnerability Analysis (HVA) tool to help emergency managers assess how disasters might impact children in a region. The tool considers age-specific needs, long-term consequences, and essential hospital and community functions for child safety. By incorporating these factors, the pediatric-specific HVA enables emergency managers to create more comprehensive and effective preparedness strategies for protecting children during emergencies.
