This study investigated how children might influence their parents' reactions to disasters, based on a sample of 556 survivor parents and 1,066 children from 5 disasters/terrorist events. The results showed that parents' posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) was linked to their injury in the disaster, previous psychiatric disorders, and exposure to trauma. Children's reactions also played a role in how parents responded. It's important for clinicians to consider children's reactions and provide support. Future research should explore how children's reactions affect parent outcomes.
