This interview discusses the design and key findings of a cross-sectional study examining encounters in the Emergency Department and subsequent care for children with medical complexity and mental or behavioral health needs. The speakers describe gaps in our knowledge and systems issues related to this important intersection of care needs, implications for clinical practice, and next steps from this work. They also discuss parent guidance for children with medical complexities and how to partner with staff in the emergency department.
