About
This study investigated the impact of preparedness measures, including having a kit, medication, and a disaster plan, on disaster outcomes post Super Storm Sandy in New York City. Through interviews with 1114 households, this study empirically examines preparedness with a kit, medication, and a disaster plan on disaster outcomes including perceived recovery, property damage, and use of medical or mental health services. Surprisingly, the study concluded that having these preparedness measures did not reduce the risk of adverse outcomes, suggesting a need for further research to identify more effective preparedness strategies for disaster response and recovery.
