About
This report describes the return of Mycoplasma pneumoniae infections in children and teens in the U.S. after COVID-19. These infections, often mild but sometimes severe, decreased during the pandemic due to safety measures. Data shows a rise in cases starting fall 2023, though still below pre-pandemic levels. Macrolide antibiotics are used for treatment, and resistance is rare in the U.S., unlike Asia where it's common. Doctors should consider this infection during respiratory illness seasons as it highlights ongoing monitoring needs for these infections and antibiotic resistance concerns while macrolides remain recommended treatment options.
