About
This study compared the effectiveness and efficiency of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) for children after a large fireworks factory exploded in the Netherlands. 52 children participated in the study located in a disaster mental health after-care center, which was initiated 6 months after the event. Findings conclude both CBT and EMDR interventions can significantly improve functioning of disaster-exposed children. However, it notes that each therapy has its own strengths, making them useful in different situations. The research aims to find the best ways to support young people after traumatic events like natural disasters or accidents.
