About
This study explores the influences of post-disaster school and community microsystems and their affect on child (6-10 years) and youth (11-17 years) psychopathology following Hurricane Georges in Puerto Rico in 1998. These risk factors include: school violence, teachers' attitudes, neighborhood climate, neighborhood monitoring, and community violence. For children, hurricane exposure increased risk for internalizing psychopathology, but the school and community variables did not have an influence. For youth, witnessing community violence and poor teacher attitudes increased the risk of psychopathology.Tags
