On-Campus Health Care Facility Armed Assailant Planning Considerations
This resource provides a checklist to help healthcare facilities prepare for, respond to, and recover from active shooter or armed assailant situations. It is designed with hospitals in mind but can be adapted for other facilities. The checklist is divided into four phases: mitigation, preparedness, response, and recovery, and includes promising practices and resources for each phase. Key areas covered include facility violence prevention, staff training, emergency communication, and coordination with law enforcement. Additional resources are provided by the International Association for Healthcare Security and Safety (IAHSS) and other organizations.
