This editorial is about preparing for future pandemics, based on lessons learned from the COVID-19 pandemic. It describes ways to make sure we are ready if another pandemic happens. Insights from the National Academies report emphasize the need to confront long-lasting repercussions, learn from past mistakes, promote scientific literacy, and fortify our readiness for future pandemics.
