About
This article talks about the ethical issues related to creating vaccines for children to be prepared for pandemics. It looks at examples of vaccines made for kids during past outbreaks like smallpox, flu, and the 2019 coronavirus. It also discusses how vaccines are being developed now to prepare for pandemics. Some vaccines, like those for smallpox, flu, anthrax, and Ebola, are kept in the US Strategic National Stockpile. Other vaccines are in progress to fight against diseases listed as top priorities by the World Health Organization (WHO). This article is part of a series in Pediatrics Clinics of North America 2024 June; 71(3).
