This document focuses on the importance of providing access to quality education programs for children from birth to age 5 in crisis situations. It discusses protective and risk factors for children under 5 that could affect brain development. The document addresses how the early learning needs for children in crisis are not currently met by humanitarian systems. It also identifies four different areas to promote early education in humanitarian settings and gives program examples in each of these areas.
