About
The COVID-19 pandemic intensified mental health issues among children, leading to increased anxiety, depression, suicide attempts, and emergency visits. In response, the Administration for Strategic Preparedness and Response (ASPR) created behavioral health task forces linked to pediatric disaster centers. The Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA) funded the Pediatric Pandemic Network (PPN) to enhance preparedness for future health crises, with a focus on behavioral health. This commentary highlights efforts by experts to improve behavioral health competencies across disciplines, regional and national emergency response capabilities, and provides examples of successful interdisciplinary training and projects. It emphasizes the need for behavioral health providers to become more engaged with federal programs, seek additional training, and foster innovative collaborations with medical and community partners to better prepare for and respond to future disasters.Tags
