About
This data brief describes how telemedicine use among office-based doctors increased during the COVID-19 pandemic. In 2021, nearly 90% of doctors used telemedicine, up from just 15% in previous years. Most doctors used it for less than half of their patients and preferred telephone over video calls. Challenges included patient difficulties with technology and internet issues. Many doctors were satisfied with telemedicine, especially when using platforms integrated with electronic health records (EHRs). The report suggests that policy changes helped increase usage and that many physicians plan to continue using telemedicine after the pandemic ends.
